The Vermont Fish and Wildlife biologist Lee Simard conducted the fish census at the Twin Rivers trout habitat restoration site Wednesday, 9/13/17.
This is a section upstream of the confluence of the Batten Kill and the Green River that is the first area that we worked on.
Initial reports include a good distribution of sizes of brown trout, from yearlings to medium sized to big. Several 19 inch browns, and an 11 inch brook trout. We will have to wait for the biologist to do his calculations to see how this census compares to other years.
Next week they will do a census at the Cemetery Run site where we worked last year.
Photos show the crew shocking the river and gathering the trout, then bringing the bins in by canoe, then various size trout waiting for their weighing and measuring, then the recovery boxes and the return to the river, then several of the stalwart staff of the Green Mountain National Forest. These guys have partnered well with VFWD and the Alliance to invest in the future of our Batten Kill. Thank you!
