Project: Tibbetts Habitat Restoration
Location: in the Batten Kill, upstream and downstream of the confluence with Benedict Brook between River Road and Rte 313 in Arlington, VT.
Time Frame: 2009
Partners: Green Mountain National Forest, Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department, Bennington County Conservation District, the Tibbetts, Oakland, and Glesman families, Vermont Youth Conservation Corps.
Problem Description: Scientific studies indicate insufficient cover and shelter in the Batten Kill for good trout habitat.
Project Work Completed: Cover and shelter structures of wood and stone were installed along a third of a mile reach of the Batten Kill. River dynamics were also improved, and expanded plantings of trees and bushes along the banks undertaken along the Batten Kill and Benedict Brook.
Photos: Photos in the slideshow above show installation of large woody debris and rock structures in the Batten Kill and several of the habitat structures post installation.
